Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate — 2013 Review and Giveaway Archive

This article is an edited archive of my 2013 review of Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate. The giveaway associated with the original post has ended, and the product has changed substantially since that review.

Wondershare now refers to the product as Wondershare UniConverter (originally Video Converter Ultimate). The current interface, features, performance, licensing, and system requirements should therefore be evaluated from the current product documentation rather than the screenshots in this article.

What I reviewed in 2013

The original version focused on a common problem of the time: converting video and audio between formats for PCs, phones, tablets, and media players.

The version I tested provided a conversion queue, device-oriented output presets, video/audio conversion, editing tools, and additional media functions. My use cases included converting older home-video formats for playback on different personal devices.

At the time, I found the workflow easy to use and gave the tested version a 5/5 rating. That score is a historical assessment of the 2013 release, not a rating of the current UniConverter product.

Claims that should stay historical

The original article repeated performance claims such as conversion being many times faster than competing tools. Hardware acceleration, codecs, source media, output settings, and the software itself have all changed since 2013, so those old performance claims are not carried forward as current facts.

Likewise, the original Windows XP/Vista/7/8 compatibility list should not be used to choose the current version.

Wondershare’s current support material identifies UniConverter as the successor to Video Converter Ultimate and documents current conversion, transfer, editing, and other media functions.
